Bichette scheduled to return on Saturday to help rescue struggling Jays offence
Once again, a Jays offence had nothing to offer in a loss that allowed the Seattle Mariners to move into a tie with them for the final wildcard spot in the AL East. The M’s were in action against the Astros in Houston on Friday with a chance to bounce the Jays to the outside of the playoff picture looking in.
The stumbling Jays have now dropped five of their past seven and six of their past nine, yet again failing to gain momentum in a playoff race that is suddenly getting very interesting. “We’re definitely looking forward to his bat,” Jays manager John Schneider said back in Toronto earlier in the week with perhaps the understatement of the season. “Knowing him and with everything he’s been doing, there shouldn’t be many restrictions. If the Jays were deliberate in getting Bichette back in the lineup, it was by design. Throughout his career, the shortstop has thrived on being an everyday player who doesn’t go half speed.
Back to the brilliance of Berrios, who allowed just one hit through 5.2 innings, an effort that included a season high 19 swing and misses with eight strikeouts.
