“I’m really excited, really excited to be going down this new career path and being able to support Pictou West,” MacLeod said in a phone interview on May 21, “It's been really good, and I’m really proud of the team too. I had a lot of help.”

Angela CapobiancoWhen asked what his goals are as the new MLA, MacLeod admitted that he still has a lot to learn about the role but highlighted that what is most important to him is listening to the needs of the community.
MacLeod added that despite being a political newcomer, he feels like he’s in a good place and doesn’t have any concerns about taking on this new challenge. After 11 years as MLA for Pictou West, MacFarlane announced her retirement from politics on April 5, effective April 12. During the 2021 election, MacFarlane kept her seat with 4,487 votes .
