Closures from April 29 to May 2 needed to upgrade counterflow lane electrical system
The closures start Friday from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., Saturday from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. and Sunday from 8 p.m. until Monday morning at 5 a.m.
During these times late-night transit buses will be in operation when the SeaBus is not operating and the east sidewalk on the bridge will remain open for pedestrian and bicycle traffic. The Stanley Park Causeway will also be closed. Emergency vehicles will be able to access the bridge at all times. The overnight closures are needed to complete a counterflow system upgrade including an electrical system changeover and system testing.
The bridge has three lanes, with the centre lane being used for north or southbound traffic according to need — controlled by overhead indicator lights. In a statement, the B.C. Ministry of Transportation said that during the daytime on system changeover weekend, the bridge and causeway will be open to traffic with a partial system counterflow in place. This means that every second lane control signal will be used.
