LILLEY: Trudeau warns journalists that questions about China's election interference are racist and should stop

“Trudeau is showing nothing but contempt for Parliament, and for our democracy, by stonewalling efforts to investigate foreign interference and by refusing to treat the issue with the seriousness it deserves,” Conservative MP Michael Cooper said in a statement. Cooper might be a little too optimistic in that statement because Trudeau will try to ignore the clear direction of the committee. This advertisement has not loaded yet, but your article continues below.A Nanos poll released Friday showed 91% of Canadians are concerned about China’s interference in Canadian society while an Angus Reid poll released Thursday showed 65% believe China tried to interfere in our elections and 69% believe the Trudeau government is afraid to stand up to China.

Trudeau has claimed he wasn’t briefed but he isn’t denying that China’s consulate in Toronto funneled money and other resources to candidates. He’s not denying the claims that the consulate helped Liberal MP Han Dong win his nomination in 2019. He’s also not denying there was a 2021 attempt by the Chinese government to support Trudeau’s Liberals and defeat specific Conservative candidates.
