From brianlilley: Poll show only a small minority back tech giants in news fight

Seems many people only want news to exist if it agrees with their point of view.

Maru Public Opinion surveyed 1,530 Canadians between June 30 and July 3. Using their online panel, the polling firm explained the government’s position and asked participants what they thought. They then explained the views of the tech giants on why they reject the government’s view and then revealed that in response to the government’s new law, Canadian news would be blocked on the platforms.

A slight majority, 51%, said that they “believe the government and the digital tech companies should both signal a truce, go to the negotiating table, and get this worked out.”Article content
