What Trudeau offered VW and Stellantis, though, was a variation on what the Biden administration offered the industry through the badly named Inflation Reduction Act. The alternative to the tax credit, which the Americans were offering to attract both Stellantis and VW, was to say no to the tax credit and then collect 100% of nothing.
