This might be the reason that Jagmeet Singh denounces the Trudeau government for failing Canadians even as he votes to keep them in power.
Despite all his complaining, it looks like Jagmeet Singh has 2.3 million reasons to keep Justin Trudeau in power until 2025.
Singh was first elected through a byelection in February 2019. To qualify for the MP’s pension, members need to serve six years, which for Singh will be February 2025.Thanks for signing up!The next issue of Your Midday Sun will soon be in your inbox. With just six years under his belt, it’s not like Singh would be retiring with a massive pension, and the 44-year-old would still need to wait until the age of 55 to start collecting, but it would be a nice cushion for him at that time.
The idea that Singh would keep the Trudeau government in power simply to get his pension has always seemed farfetched. Yet, time and again it has been raised as the only possible rationale for him to support a government he denounces daily. The cumulative figure makes the case that Singh is in it for his pension more compelling. How else to explain his continuing support for a government he says is failing on the issues that matter most to Canadians.
On health, Singh consistently accuses Trudeau of not protecting Canada’s system but still keeps him in power. If the party you are in a coalition with is consistently failing Canadians on climate, on health and on affordability – the issues you say are the most important to you and to Canadians – why would you continue to support them?
