Mayors are elected citywide and should have more powers than council members. That’s not to say they should be able to run roughshod over council. The actual truth is that this is something Premier Ford has long supported. It’s also been supported in the past by Dalton McGuinty when he was in the premier’s office. Former Toronto mayors Rob Ford and David Miller backed the idea as well.
