There is a good chance the Ford government\u0027s Greenbelt saga isn\u0027t over yet.

Too many people look at government and see grand conspiracies surrounding policies or parties they don’t like. Government isn’t like that, though, because the people running government aren’t smart enough to pull those conspiracies off. The problems we see often stem from incompetence or sloppiness.

If you want a TV example of what all governments operate like, think more of Veep and less of West Wing., saying he was becoming a distraction to the important work of getting homes built and the job needs someone who can focus and get things done. I have real doubts that anyone put into this position will end up in a different position.

The opposition will smell weakness now that Clark has stepped down and will continue their push to stop any and all development on the Greenbelt. If there is one thing I’ve learned from watching the Ford government, they like to give in to the loudest voice on any issue, so with Greenbelt opponents emboldened by Clark’s resignation, the fight will only get tougher.Article contentThat really is too bad because the plan, at its core, was a good one.

One such demand was that 10% of all homes built be affordable housing while another, still-to-be-negotiated demand was for attainable housing for purchase within the price range of working-class and middle-class families. There were requirements for double the usual amount of parkland, for land to be set aside for hospitals, schools and other public goods at a higher rate and value of usual development.Article contentThe process was sloppy, the government rushed it and may have botched it all.
