LILLEY: B.C.'s overdose deaths keeps climbing, Toronto can't follow

In British Columbia, drug overdose death rates keep going up even as they adopt more \u0022harm reduction\u0022 strategies aimed at saving lives.

. That’s higher than 2022’s record-setting rate of 44.8 per 100,000 and 2021’s 44.2 per 100,000.

It’s hard to compare the data, since Public Health Ontario won’t release opioid overdose deaths beyond August 2022, but the trend line is consistent — Ontario is at a third of B.C.’s overdose death rate and we are being asked to follow their failing policy. “Substance use needs to be seen as a public health issue and a robust public health response is necessary to effectively combat the drug poisoning crisis,”Too bad the robust public health response appears to consist of making it easier to get drugs and then releasing people into your neighbourhood after they have shot up.expand the exemption to youth aged 12-17
