Kovaliv, 38, was named as ambassador to Canada in March after working for the Ukrainian government since 2010. She is visiting Edmonton to participate in a roundtable discussion put on by“Our countries are not just partners and allies. We’re like a big family and we have very close people ties.” Kovliv says her country relies on financial and military support from other countries, including Canada, to fight back.

“It’s really important for them,” she said. “They are putting their lives to protect our country and they watch these photos and videos and it’s an important message for Ukraine.”
