It’s their debut for venerable New York indie Matador, which released it last month packaged with the band’s 2022 EPproves that Lifeguard can cram a lot of life into 17 minutes, and they’ve powered up that skill on. This version of Lifeguard is a little sharper and a little more restrained—on “Shutter Shutter,” for example, drummer Isaac Lowenstein plays just one simple, minimal part, hammering steadily at his kit as though he’s controlling thunder.
