Alert WildfireOfficials say the snowstorm, expected to hit heaviest Monday through Wednesday, could result in up to 6 feet of snow, 100 mph gusts and 5-foot waves on Lake Tahoe.
"Blizzard conditions could produce life threatening situations," the National Weather Service said in a statement Sunday, advising those in the area to avoid unnecessary travel."Road crews and first responders may not be able to rescue you." "It's a major winter storm," meteorologist Chris Johnston with the weather service's Reno office told SFGATE."It's starting to come in, and it looks pretty nasty." Wind on the peaks at Palisades Tahoe had already reached 122 mph on Monday morning, Johnston said."People who travel in this will likely get stranded, and that becomes a very dangerous situation.
Don't be fooled by the break in the winter storm. More heavy snow and blizzard conditions will start soon. A blizzard warning is in effect starting at 11am today until Wednesday at 4am.
