Ontario Liberal Party leadership candidate Yasir Naqvi visited Pembroke on Aug. 8 as part of his cross-province 'listening tour.'

“I’m from Ottawa, so really , it’s like part of my own community,” Naqvi said. “I’m running to become the leader of the Ontario Liberal Party and as a result I’m travelling the entire province and I wanted to be here in Renfrew County as well to learn about the creative solutions, like the VTAV program, that’s happening and meet with local Liberals in places like Pembroke and Eganville to talk about my vision for our party and the province and get them engaged in the leadership process.

During his Renfrew County visit he primarily heard worries and frustration over healthcare which he said was in dire straits at the moment. Former long-serving Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke Liberal MPP Sean Conway accompanied Naqvi during his to Renfrew County. “When I am the leader of the Ontario Liberal Party, you will see me on a very regular basis in Renfrew County meeting with healthcare providers, meeting with education providers, meeting with other social services and our municipal leaders so that when we’re developing our platform, when we’re putting practical ideas forward, they are actually inspired by local community leaders,” he said.
