With opposition MPs pushing motions to direct Canadian foreign policy —whether out of ideology or symbolism—pressure is being put on the cabinet’s exclusive control over the management of Canada’s place on the world stage. Over the last two Parliaments, Conservative and NDP MPs have moved a number of such opposition day motions, most of which have passed, including three with the cabinet's support in the current parliamentary session.
