“The title may be gone, but the work’s not done,” former liaison Natalie Fox said.
, Stimpson announced on Aug. 11 that he was eliminating the unpaid positions. In the announcement, he said that “the appointment of liaisons created concern for many” due to other communities not having a liaison and that it “unintentionally communicated privileged access to the mayor’s office.”
The HRC, which advocates for LGBTQ positions in communities around the country, coordinated with Stimpson to create the roles. The initiative’s primary opponents hailed from anti-LGBTQ Christian communities — a perspective that LGBTQ advocates say is already represented in positions of power.
