Ninety\u002Deight per cent of the electricity that B.C. Hydro generates is clean or renewable, and we have lots of it.
In an opinion piece promoting nuclear energy published Feb. 12, Douglas Todd suggests B.C. Hydro is importing dirty, coal-generated electricity from the United States. I’d like to set the record straight.
Over the past three years, trading on the electricity market has resulted in about $1 billion in revenue for Hydro that it uses to help keep rates affordable for customers. In recent years, strong government climate policies on both sides of the border have reshaped the western power grid, and the electricity traded into and out of B.C. by Powerex and its trading partners is cleaner today than it has ever been. In January 2021, Powerex adopted a Clean Energy Trade Standard that ensures B.C.
In the article, the College is quoted as saying the health authorities that would be employing associate physicians were focused on other priorities during the COVID-19 pandemic. The article erroneously made the leap from that quote to saying the College “blames the health authorities for dropping the ball” on the associate physician program.Article content
Incorrect assumptions inadvertently cause misunderstanding between the many partners involved in the associate physician program and general health human resourcing. Contrary to the sentiment portrayed in the article, the College is committed to working with the health authorities and other partners to address our province’s health human resourcing issues.Article content
