Re: Ian Mulgrew: B.C.’s broken policing system a boondoggle

On behalf of our 6,500 RCMP members in B.C., we are responding to Ian Mulgrew’s March 27 column, “B.C.’s broken policing system a boondoggle”.

Finally, Mr. Mulgrew asserted that there is no standardized training for police officers in B.C. when, in fact, municipal police officers all receive the same training at the Justice Institute of B.C. and all RCMP officers are trained at Depot, the RCMP’s national training facility in Regina. So, while the current $110 rebate may have nothing to do with the outrageous price we are now paying for gas, if you do the math, as I did, you might be surprised to find that the actual cost of driving has dropped considerably thanks to reduced insurance costs and ICBC rebates.I enjoyed Brandt Louie’s oped. It brought back some memories, and I want to share a short story.Article content
