Readers criticize Will Smith’s actions at the Oscars; praise the president’s speech given in Warsaw; urge support of a carbon tax; praise the Utah governor for vetoing a transgender sports bill; and discuss Southlake mayor’s recent meme.
President Joe Biden’s speech in Warsaw on Saturday may have been the most important, and arguably best, address of his administration. The audience was more than Poland and Ukraine — it was all nations in the world opposed to autocracy and committed to freedom and democratic principles. It was powerful and forcefully delivered, placing the current war into a larger historical context, showing that “might makes right” and that once again we are called upon to save democracy.
What went wrong? This approach is strongly supported by economists. There’s a bipartisan bill in Congress that does this, HR 2307.
