Readers shared an anecdote about union rules; criticized an essay on the well-being of the nation’s poorest; blamed Democrats for economic woes; and praised Abbott for his immigration response.

A few years ago, I arranged a private birthday party for my wife in Las Vegas. I ordered a nice cake, and besides the cost of the cake, there was an additional $55 added to the order for a cake cutter. I told the restaurant the cake cutter was not necessary, and the response was that culinary union rules required a cake cutter — no cake cutter, no cake.

None of the definitions mentions anything about welfare programs. They have nothing to do with socialism. They have everything to do with plain old, vanilla-flavored concern and compassion by the public to provide a minimum floor of protection for citizens who are unable to to care for themselves, for whatever reason.I recently moved back downtown after living in the northern suburbs for the past 10 years.

The average price of a home in 2022 is more than $400,000. This is affordable for first-time buyers? Thousands of homeless call city streets home.

President Joe Biden and the Democrats’ reckless spending since his inauguration are the principal causes of the inflationary spiral we now find ourselves in. The state of today’s economic outlook is not some sort of mess he inherited from former President Donald Trump, which is Biden’s favorite alibi when things go wrong. Biden and the Democrats own this mess.
