Climate change is real. Punishing those who recognize this won’t save any lives or livelihoods. More obvious still, it’s not the comptroller’s job.Re: “Fossil fuels are a national security asset — Ukraine conflict should prove need for strategic, collaborative American energy policy,” by Todd Staples, March 20 Opinion.

Here are some facts. The U.S. is an exporter of oil. The U.S is the world’s largest producer of oil and natural gas. The U.S. has 264 billion barrels of recoverable oil reserves. The U.S. consumes about 20 million barrels of oil a day. I have heard that we may have enough oil to last 50 years. I am sure that Rep. Williams’ campaign is well-funded by oil and gas companies and their executives. Stop the war, congressman, and drive an electric car.Roger Williams’ column mentions “burdensome environmental regulations” on fossil fuel production in his column against President Joe Biden’s energy policies. However, Williams omits any mention of the environmental elephant in the room.
