How deeply moved our family was to see the Queen on the Buckingham Palace balcony receiving tributes for her remarkable Platinum Jubilee. My elderly grandparents, who are Holocaust survivors, were with us and they wept in joy and thanksgiving for the civil liberties and freedom which came to them by escaping to Canada and living under our constitutional monarchy.
Looking at the Queen we can say she is a living symbol of devotion to duty and the upholding of democratic principles. We urgently need in Canada a better understanding of our monarchy and its role in guaranteeing our freedoms.Article contentAs such, it’s time to cut Mother Britain’s apron strings and make Canada a truly independent nation.
Post-Elizabeth royals are little more than wealthy welfare recipients, who serve no real purpose other than window dressing for monarchists. Pomp and style have little, if any, connection to reality, let alone to the affairs of state. Coverage of the latest royal tour was scant at best, and deservedly so.
It’s time to leave Fantasy Island, a.k.a. the British Commonwealth, the last remnant of the empire, and move on.
