Anyone paying attention to the news recognizes that America is embroiled in a deep divide along racial lines. We need a cause célèbre to bring people together. I am proposing that Juneteenth could be that cause.

As we celebrate Juneteenth on Sunday, I encourage all citizens to think about what each individual can do to promote a more perfect union and show up to at least one Juneteenth celebration in your area. We are the change we seek.I’m old enough to have purchased my first home in Dallas in 1979. My mortgage interest was in double digits. In 1980, inflation peaked above 14%. Unemployment was more than twice what it is today. At least my money market fund paid double-digit interest, too.

It is time. The building permit process has been broken for years and it is costing our city on many levels. As good as our economy seems, we are losing out on more reinvestment as well as new construction because of the tremendous difficulty one experiences in this department.
