✉️ Letters to the Editor — Is this a tipping point for our democracy?
Based on so many believing without evidence that President Joe Biden didn’t win the 2020 election and all the resulting opportunistic changes to voting and election laws, I believe we in the United States face a tipping point for our democracy. We don’t yet know how it will turn out, but I have been thinking about how history might record it.
Many members of the Republican Party are pushing the big lie that the 2020 election was stolen. It was not! There were 160 million votes cast, and Joe Biden won by 7 million votes. Biden clearly won the Electoral College vote by the same number as Trump defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016. What is the problem? The problem is that a massive amount of people are beginning to believe that the system is rigged and elections are false. This is a lie and is fundamentally destructive. Democracy is clearly in peril, and autocracy is looming its ugly head. What ails our republic at this juncture in history happened when we adopted a sports game mentality, applying that as the way we think our system of government should work as well.
On Monday, I called the county election department and was told the first application had been rejected because it was an older form of the application that had no place for registrant’s identification. This application had come from the Dallas County Elections Department website. Suddenly the fog parted, revealing the lady with the torch, bathed in brilliant sunlight, lifting her torch of liberty toward the leaden sky. Daddy said every man on that ship went to his knees! That awesome image was etched in the heart and soul of my father as it is in mine today.

The pieces are largely riddled with errors, which we point out to compel corrections, but the writers ignore the evidence we provide that their premise is entirely flawed.
