Sanders purposely withholds recommendations for other reforms such as background checks, and understandably so, since the Uvalde shooter had not committed a crime until he did on that fateful day.
Re: “Disasters cut into policies — Insurance firms limit coverage as climate worsens damage,” Sept. 4 news story.The reliable fossil fuel industry continues to cause all sorts of illness and injury, climate change and species extinction. Now they have added a new facet of suffering for the American people: wallet wallops.
Younger voters understand they will experience the results of our climate actions or inactions while we older folks rest undisturbed in peace. Are these younger voters willing to forgo insurance and assume all climate disaster risk for themselves? Or will they simply smirk and call it a “hoax?” It’s important to note that while the eclipse begins at 10:23 a.m. and ends at 1:29 p.m., the eclipse is not total during that period. Rather, the period when the eclipse is at its maximum is very short. I hope by mid-October we could also be spared the demands for air conditioning we experienced this summer. It’s also important to note that solar-generated capacity is still only a small percentage of our total electrical production in the state.
