LET THEM EAT CAKE
Re “Covering up wasteful spending is the rule in Ottawa” : Our governor general’s comment that a $100,000 in-flight catering bill is just like what we peasants are served, you know, things like beef Wellington and stuffed pork tenderloin, etc., reminds me of someone who told the peasants to eat cake if they were hungry. Shouldn’t one of the qualities of a candidate for this prehistoric position be “self-awareness.
Many of us who grew up in small towns, for example Picton in the 1950s, lived in 15-minute towns. We had to walk because the parent needed to get to work in the area and/or were driving to Belleville, Kingston, Oshawa GM daily, or wherever a job was safe and secure and had some benefits. Having a second car was unheard of — unless both parents worked — and as children we raised ourselves. And after school we had our chores to do.
