Readers worry about the future of our democracy; don’t agree with using a missile defense system; propose a national wealth tax; wish the paper would offer a service to list obituaries at no cost; and worry about the homeless problem with DART.

The American people must wake up to fact that our entire history and future are being actively attacked. Many letter writers incomplain about its “liberal” policies. They either do not know or have forgotten that for most of current history, the paper has usually supported Republican and conservative candidates. The paper now wisely supports those best for our future.Re: “Let’s hear it for consistency,” by Rich Latta, Wednesday Letters.

We do, however, show hostility when we place advanced weapon systems on our rivals’ borders and in space. NATO has encroached on Russia despite our word we wouldn’t. We’ve pointed weapons at North Korea for decades. We are the aggressors. When my sister died, the stories from her former students, church members regarding her faithfulness, and unknown persons she had aided reminded us of the full life she lived and helped assuage our grief.
