Letters to the Editor

Re: “Lessons we vowed never to forget on 9/11 — I joined the Air Force because of those attacks and these truths,” by Daniel Rose, Monday Opinion.I really appreciated the column by Daniel Rose about Sept. 11. His last item in the column about “a delicate balance between freedom and security” was especially timely — and timeless. He reminds us that we must have an “ongoing, robust public discussion” about that balance, respectfully and seriously considering both sides.

I started to cry and said I worked for American Airlines and asked him what made him give this to me. He said: “I don’t know. I was drawn to you for some reason.”AdvertisementI also shall never forget that day, 9/11, because I was a United Airlines flight attendant, Boston-based, who had this same line of flying that same month. By the providence of God, I was not working Flight 175 on that particular September day. I had personally flown with some of the crew who were killed that horrible day.

Our governor, county and city officials should announce a preemptive declaration calling for energy reduction including lights out and air conditioning units turned up. Plan ahead, Texas. Finally, a story that concludes that solar power is not all that reliable. The grid could go down during the solar eclipse. The backup power would be needed to “fill the resulting dip in solar output.”
