Readers offer opinions on the Saskatoon Tribal Council wellness centre in Fairhaven and the Saskatchewan Party government\u0027s priorities.

Last month, I contacted the mayor’s office with a photo and a strongly worded letter. In the photo, kids sat amid bushes on the Mormon tabernacle lawn in the Fairhaven neighbourhood near the emergency wellness centre, while a man, metres away, held a hockey stick. He’d been slapping things.Days later, trucks, loaders and an excavator tore away every bush and low branch on the property where homeless shelter residents had lingered, replacing it with mulch and open spaces. Swiftly done.

One block from the shelter is a park that borders two elementary schools. Kids walk through every day. A friend and I had morning coffees on a bench in the park. Fire crackled from a garbage can. A drunk man berated us when I asked him to step back. It underpays health professionals and underwrites recruiting of health-care workers with other provinces. It denies teachers cost-of-living-based raises and fails to meet increased needs for student mental health supports and the requirements of increasingly diverse student populations.
