Beyond urban votes

Rick Bell’s column on his interview with ex-mayor Nenshi was an interesting read. They both have a fixation on the urban vote in Edmonton and Calgary and intimate that these cities control Alberta’s destiny. They forget that at the beginning of her reign Danielle Smith said that her emphasis would be on the rural vote which almost totally supports the UCP and that a handful of urban votes would give her a majority. As to Bell and Nenshi, there are none so blind as those who do not want to see.

Where I live, residents jointly help each other clearing the snow from our driveways and sidewalks. A beautiful effort by all. Then city crews arrive, not understanding or caring about our efforts, and plow a wing row of packed snow in front of each driveway. City managers just have a blast of hot air when asked about it. Too bad a blast of hot air isn’t provided to remove the wing row of packed snow left in front of each citizen’s driveway.
