A very symbolic response indeed, as many people in the world, especially Latin America, possess this vision of the U.S. When I lived in Mexico in the 1970s, I remember many Mexicans imagining the streets to be paved in gold.I grow quite tired of having our country blamed for the failures of other countries. Those countries’ despotic leaders can’t feed, clothe, house or employ their citizens, which leads to people coming to our borders. The United States is blamed for not caring for them.
We need to start laying the blame where it belongs. We are a caring people. No country does more for humanity than the United States. Our taxpayers should not have to foot the bill for other countries’ failures.Re: “Ban other weapons, too?” Your Turn, Dec. 6:
