Sen. John Fetterman and other leaders examine SNAP and other nutrition assistance programs. A reader expresses concern about a GOP push to add work requirements.Like many Americans, I sadly watch while current and past leaders may receive little or no punishment for violating laws they helped create.
As presidents are commander in chief of our armed forces, they need to set the highest example. Also concerning is the reluctance of elected leaders to admonish a president of their same political affiliation. By not doing so, they are also culpable. It is the sincere hope of “we the people” that there are bipartisan Americans and news media that have the courage to severely admonish these two men.Republicans in Congress seek to subject recipients of Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, or SNAP, to burdensome work requirements in order to continue receiving these benefits.
A lot of people won’t meet these requirements. This legislation is cruel and draconian and would take food away from hungry children. It couldn’t come at a worse time since a lot of people are trying to cope with inflation.
