If career politicians are walking the bases, maybe we must shake things up with a political outsider coming out of left field. We did it once, handing Mayor Amanda McDougall-Merrill the ball. She struck him out with a curveball, a sinker and finally a change-up. Even if Rankin doesn’t intend to offer, his words provide a lesson to all. Great leaders “show the receipts” of their understanding of our needs – avoiding a hodgepodge of political cliches sounding important but saying very little. His commentary should remind Clarke to not sell himself as the architect of solutions when he was one of the architects of the problems to begin with.
