Why, for example, are no reasons given for the recommendations? If the cost is so prohibitive and uncertain that only government funding can get the job done, why not nip the bad idea in the bud?is now pushing $31 billion. The price of one SMNR will be an estimated $5 billion, and this includes neither the costs of decommissioning nor radioactive waste storage.
Finally, SMNRs are not slated to enter the energy markets for another 10 years. The impact of climate change, on the other hand, needs to be addressed now. A more sober and timely recommendation would be to take the billions of dollars destined for the nuclear industry and invest it in alternative energy, an industry which is clean, safe and job intensive.
