At his news conference wrapping up the work of his government, as the Quebec national assembly went into summer recess, Premier François Legault defended measures to protect French that some Quebec anglophones consider discriminatory. “I know many anglophones and many anglophones in Montreal, they think that we have to protect French, because it makes us distinct,” the premier said in English, answering questions from a CBC English journalist.
“Of course, there are a few anglophones who say, ‘Oh, we are in Canada. Everything should be bilingual.’
