LeBron James and the Lakers continued to advocate for justice for Breonna Taylor with a twist on U.S. President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” hats.
James was also wearing a shirt that said “By Any Means,” a reference to a new song about the social justice movement by Jorja Smith.
Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT from Kentucky, was shot eight times by police in her apartment after officers executed a “no-knock” warrant,. She and her boyfriend were sleeping at the time and he fired at the officers, believing them to be intruders. The officers went to the home because they believed it was being used as part of a drug-smuggling operation but no narcotics were found on the scene.
The three officers involved in the incident were put on administrative leave and one has since been fired, but all three have not been charged with any crimes for their roles in Taylor’s death. This isn’t the first time James has spoken up about Taylor’s death. In July, after an exhibition game against the Dallas Mavericks in which he wrote Taylor’s name on his shoes, the Lakers star spent more than 15 minutes speaking to reporters about Taylor, his experiences as a Black man in the U.S. and the Black Lives Matter movement.
“I want to continue to shed light on justice for Breonna Taylor and to her family and everything that’s going on with that situation,” James said, according to the%2Fbasketball%2Fnba%2Flebron-james-lakers-call-justice-breonna-taylor-twist-maga-hat%2F
