LeBron James asks his 43.5M Twitter followers to support California's student athlete pay bill
The bill by Sen. Nancy Skinner would allow student athletes to receive compensation and hire a sports agent starting in 2023 despite continued opposition from the NCAA, whose president has implied California schools could be banned from national championships.“Everyone in California, call your politicians and tell them to support SB 206,’’ James tweeted under his official Twitter handle @KingJames, an account with 43.5 million followers. “This law is a GAME CHANGER.
But major California powerhouse universities like Stanford have opposed the bill. Stanford's athletic director, Bernard Muir, argued in a letter to the state Senate that it would “present serious challenges for higher education institutions and to the collegiate sports model.”
