McCabe Injury, Alfredsson Role and McKenna Debut
A deflected puck sliced through his glove and cut into his wrist, causing blood to spill immediately. Despite the dramatic scene, McCabe returned to the game after a quick bandage job and finished with impressive stats - two assists, six blocked shots, and 23 minutes of ice time. He later admitted he was 'very lucky' the cut didn't strike a nerve, which would have sidelined him for weeks.
The incident highlighted the risks players take every night, even with protective gear. Alfredsson settling in with Leafs - but missing anonymity Daniel Alfredsson, a legend in Ottawa, is now adjusting to life on the 'other side' as a consultant for the Maple Leafs. While he's enjoying the role and getting along well with former rivals like Auston Matthews, Alfredsson noted that living in Toronto is vastly different from his time in Ottawa.
In Canada's capital, he could walk around unnoticed; here, he's constantly recognized - a fact he jokes about with his Ottawa friends. Despite the fame, he's embracing the opportunity to contribute to a young, talented team. McKenna's historic debut: Family stays for Yukon showdown Keith McKenna, from Whitehorse, Yukon, made history on Monday by becoming the first player from his territory to debut in the NHL.
His family flew in from Calgary to witness the milestone - they plan to stay through the weekend to see him play against his childhood idol, Buffalo's Dylan Cozens. McKenna, who scored his first NHL point that night, expressed how meaningful it is to have his loved ones present for this pivotal moment. The Leafs' win over Ottawa capped off a dream debut for the 23-year-old winger.
Bobrovsky Reflects on Rookie Lap
Bobrovsky's candid moment: 'I completely forgot' about McKenna's lap In a humorous exchange, goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky revealed he forgot about McKenna's rookie lap before the game - a tradition where rookies circle the ice with players. Bobrovsky admitted he was too focused on his own preparation but noted that he always tries to empathize with first-time players. He also praised the team for its good vibes and chemistry, which helped them overcome a tough start this season.
The veteran netminder finished with 28 saves, solidifying the Leafs' 4-1 victory over the Oilers.
