Tonight, the actress makes her much-buzzed-about debut in FunnyGirl on Broadway. “This character is a combination of everything that I’ve learned in my life,” she says.
Why didn’t Michele get the role of Brice when therevival was first cast? “I don’t really know. You’ll have to ask the producers,” she says. She laughs heartily before quickly recovering her composure.“I don’t know when that was all decided.”
Even from her triumphant perch as Broadway’s next Brice, I imagine that Michele was disappointed to lose out on what was known to be her dream role two years ago. But she tells me that her priority then was new motherhood to Ever, particularly after a “very, very intense pregnancy” .
