LCBO employees are planning to rally outside of Pickering MPP Peter Bethlenfalvy’s office Tuesday morning.
Workers in 11 cities are holding a Day of Action ahead of a new round of bargaining, which starts Wednesday. Their union, the Ontario Public Service Employees Union , says they’re also demanding a stop to “the sell-off of the LCBO by the Ford government.” The Day of Action also aims to protect good jobs across the province, according to a release.
The union says the LCBO generates $2.5-billion in annual revenue that goes directly into public services like health care and education. The workers say Premier Doug Ford has announced his government will open the floodgate for big box grocers and gas stations to sell alcohol, a move they want to see stopped.
The union says the workers are fighting to keep those revenues invested in public services instead of being handed over to the CEOs of big box grocery stores. If you have found a spelling error, please, notify us by selecting that text and pressing
