A federal lawsuit alleges Chicago police misused 'unreliable' gunshot detection technology in investigating a grandfather and charging him with murder

The federal class action lawsuit claims that 90% percent of alerts from the gunshot detection system turned up nothing.

Williams said he hopes the lawsuit doesn't just bring his family justice but gets the attention of other impacted like he was as a result of the city's ShotSpotter technology. "She had to be here at home alone, trying to pay the bills, trying to pay rent," Williams said."She had two dogs -- I had two dogs that she was trying to care for. And the emotional stress that it put on her was devastating. She was hurt, she was suffering, and then she had medical problems that she was already dealing with. So the impact there was strong emotional stress and mitigation. You know, she'd suffered it here. I had to suffer in jail.
