Laura Dern thinks there’s “much further to go” when it comes to recognizing and celebrating female filmmakers.

Marriage Story“I feel we have so much further to go,” she said. “I mean, it’s very exciting, we’re thrilled that there are female pioneers and trailblazers, like, and so many incredible female directors, but very few have been nominated, and fewer have won.”

She continued, “The more we see people who look like us in the world, telling their stories, the more we understand, not only that we have the opportunity, but that the job even exists for us. So that’s why there’s an incredible amount of work to do.” But Dern has hope for the future, as evidenced by how excited her teenage daughter was to join her at the party and meet filmmakers like. And it sounds like Dern is hoping to find some allies once she gets inside.

“Everybody here can help us, because they can seek out women-led stories and films,” she said, namechecking
