U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro is asking the public for suggestions to help shape his list of nominations to the National Recording Registry.

Attention Latino music fans. U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro wants to know what songs or albums deserve a spot on the exclusive National Recording Registry . Established by Congress in 2020, the registry aims to preserve audio recordings deemed “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant” to life in the United States. Each year, 25 recordings are added to the list.

Local nonprofit seeks community input for San Antonio's first arboretum According to the release, less than 5% of the 650 recordings currently preserved in the registry can be attributed to Latino and Hispanic Americans. For the past two years, Castro has submitted annual nomination lists to increase Latino visibility and received hundreds of suggestions from the community.
