Singer and activist Harry Belafonte helped shape Rev. Michael Pfleger
Entertainer and civil rights activist Harry Belafonte died Tuesday morning at the age of 96.
Belafonte also stood beside King at the 1966 Chicago Freedom Festival advocating for better housing conditions, one of several stops he'd make in the Windy City over the decades, and you can still find some relics of his visits St. Sabina Catholic Church on the South Side. His passing brings words of praise for the icon from longtime St. Sabina pastor Rev. Michael Pfleger, who calls him a hero and a friendPfleger walks every day past the photos of a man he calls his friend and hero.
Belafonte built a successful entertainment career as an actor and singer, risking it all for civil rights activism.
