WATCH: Rocky View County fire crews were called to a property west of Calgary after a large building caught fire. Ina Sidhu reports.According to a spokesperson from Rocky View County’s Fire Services, firefighters responded to the fully-involved barn fire in the area of Range Road 32 just off Grandview Way at around 3:20 p.m. Trucks and farm machinery inside the barn were burned. The fire is currently under control.Smoke could be seen at the scene on Monday evening.
“Because of the way the barn was built and the way it was collapsing on itself, there’s still a heavy fire load underneath. We still have a lot of machinery inside that are still on fire. It’s difficult to get out unless you bring in a lot of heavy equipment.“We’re just trying to attack from different angles and put a lot of water on the fire.
Victor Vega was working at a construction site across the street when he noticed some flames coming from the roof. He told Global News he was surprised at how quickly the barn caught on fire. He estimated the barn was engulfed within three to four minutes. He also said he heard explosions. “I was amazed at how quickly the first responders showed up to the site. Firefighters took around 10 minutes to come,” he said. “We were concerned about horses, other barn animals and people … But we didn’t see anybody coming out of the building. What’s behind Canada’s productivity problem and why it matters
