Los Angeles D.A. Jackie Lacey announced the charges Tuesday.

An LAPD cop who was caught on video giving a man a beating earlier this year is now going to court ... he's been charged with assault by the District Attorney.

-- who video shows pummeled a man with his fists this past April out in Boyle Heights. As we reported, the officer was responding to a call for trespass. Hernandez now faces one count of felony assault under color of authority.
