Deer Park head coach Amy Vidal watched the Lady Deer offense belt four doubles and a solo homer in five of the last six innings in the team's 7-3 non-district win over Dawson Monday afternoon.PEARLAND - Aside from one messy inning, there were no signs of the Deer Park varsity girls softball team mentally being on spring break Monday afternoon.
In a little bit of a bind after Dawson scored three runs in the second and watching a lead evaporate, Fuentes homered and belted a pair of doubles to get her teammates the lead back, an advantage they would maintain over the final four frames. Fuentes knotted the game at 3-3 when she rocked a shot over the left center field wall, returning two innings later with her first double, a shot over the right fielder's head that plated her second and third RBIs. The fact that she sprayed the ball to left side for her roundtripper and then to right field for her damaging two-bagger also says a lot about the strength of her hitting.Aleena Carrizales also began spring break with an impressive day at the plate.
Does it seem like the Lady Deer had quite a few two-baggers? Yes, they did. Four to be exact. In fact, Deer Park had an extra base hit in five of the final six innings.
