Ladino, a new Mediterranean-inspired concept from the Austin-based Emmer & Rye Hospitality Group, will open Sept. 19 in the former home of chef Andrew Weissman's beloved Italian spot Osteria Il Sogno. Ladino will celebrate executive chef Berty Richter's Middle Eastern and Balkan roots with a menu built around dishes cooked over a charcoal grill.
"I grew up in Israel mainly with my mom’s side of the family that came from Turkey, Greece and Bulgaria. We spoke Ladino, a dialect of Spanish mixed with French, Italian, Greek and Turkish," chef Richter said in a news release."Large family gatherings and endless feasts were part of our daily lives, and I’ve always dreamt of one day creating a concept that will pay homage to my family’s roots and culture.
