Farming is big business in Illinois, contributing billions to the state’s economy.

David Toledo started his company, Contemporary Farmer Inc., with $3,000 in savings and $1,000 from his parents. Toledo says even though he knows how to work the land, starting a farm is a lot of work. Hultine says getting the money to start a farm for any young farmer is hard — but over the past couple of years the price of farmland has increase outrageously.
