Perry Trimper says plenty of experts say low-barrier facility will help address Happy Valley’s transient issue

| Posted: 3 hours ago | Updated: 3 hours ago | 3 Min Read

“I have to keep reminding folks that there are some very well-endorsed, well-experienced folks involved in the planning,” Trimper told The Telegram this week. Most of the transient population are Indigenous people who camp on the town’s outskirts even as the weather gets colder. In the past few years, a number have died in frigid temperatures, including two last year who were only steps away from available shelter.More of the same?

Concerns have also been raised about the fact the facility won’t serve specifically as a detox and counselling centre, but Trimper said experts agree there must be a strong degree of trust and peer influence to encourage people to avail of those services.
